The Belwin String Builder is a string class method in which the violin, viola, cello, and bass play together throughout. Each book, however, is a complete unit and may be used separately for class or individual instruction. The material in this book is realistically graded so that only a minimum of explanatory material is required. Each melody is interesting and will provide the basis for a fine left hand technic and bow arm. Available in three levels for violin, viola, cello, bass, piano accompaniment, and teacher's manual.

I am an adult learner and had never even picked up a violin before my first lesson five months ago. By using this series from the beginning, it let me learn the basics very quickly and easily (with lots of practice). This series is great. I am now playing some basic classical music, celtic music, hymns, and soundtracks from movies. For beginners, it is an absolute must that you have a teacher.
As a musician, I find this book difficult for my teenage daughter to use as it was intended. When her violin instructor or I use it with her, she performs well, but there aren't enough tips for beginner/intermediate violinists to improve through self-study.
This series, volumes one, two and three, provide an excellent foundation for learning to play the violin. I highly recommend the series.
My daughter uses suzuki book but she likes to learn more songs. The teach suggested us to buy this as the 2nd book before she can advance to next level. It turned out to be a very good one and my daughter likes the songs in it. However, she did not finish it as she advanced to the next level very soon.
Great book for beginners. Takes you from a good starting point and gets you to more intricate bowings, fingerings and tempos. I really have enjoyed it
I played this one all the way through, and went back again. Lots of short tunes to play. I will keep it out and go through it again.
