Upon recently receiving this book, I was planning on reading just a few pages before going to bed. Well, those few pages turned into the WHOLE book. I could not put it down, wondering what happened to Dr. Brock in the next story. His stories and communication skills kept me laughing story after story. Good book for animal lovers and just people who like laughing with others. Can't wait for the second edition.
This man is a freakin hoot!! One of the best books I have ever read!! If you're having a bad day or just need a good laugh this sure will lift your spirits!!
I loved this book. Veterinarians have great stories and Bo Brock is a great story teller. Plus his practice is in west Texas, and since that is the part of the country I grew up in, it is like I know the people who are his clients.
This book was hilarious and yet revealing just as much about the people who called the vet as it did about the man who served those folks and their animals. While the setting was familiar to me as a Texan, the attitude toward his work reminded me of the book All Creatures Great and Small. He managed to show the shiftiness of those who were too tight to pay for his work when it should have been done--and still he did not bad mouth them as most of us would have been tempted to do. But the situations were obviously caused by people who did not really love their animals. His fatigue was perfectly described--much like many a human doctor who seldom gets enough sleep.I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who knows and loves their animals and the men and women who are willing to face fangs and fury when caring for them.
I agree with some of the other reviewers, although I did not read the entire book in one sitting. It was hard to put down, so I carried my Kindle everywhere with me and read at every and any opportunity! It is a great book not only for content and LAUGHTER, but for the short story format that you can quickly read 1 or two of these short quips on the run, trying hard, of course not to LOL and scare the people around you! it is perfect to read anywhere, but on say a commute, or on a trip (as long as your are not driving yourself!)
I had read a few of Dr. Brock's stories on Facebook and just had to get the book. I was not disappointed by it. Every story is either funny or touching and sometimes both. His descriptions make it easy to picture in your mind as you read, so you feel like you are right there. I enjoyed every page of this book and would recommend it to others.
Dr. Brock captures the small town, big heart attitude of West Texas. I grew up not too far from the middle of nowhere myself and I makes me proud of the strong people who populate this region. A very good read for everyone. Dr.Brock has a wit and clever way of writing that is clear yet colorful and fun to read, even if he is an Aggie :)
I love books of vet tales, but not this one. The author makes fun of his clients, particularly the older ones with hearing problems or snaps on their shirts. (What's with the fixation on snaps? If you get hooked in something and pulled another way, snaps can save you.) So, some of the stories were funny, but I really didn't like the way the author presents himself.Kudos to him of calling out Dr. Honnas for praise. Although I have never needed his services, he is a legend around here.
