I LOVED this book! As an RN I can assure you that all of his seemingly unbelievable stories are most certainly true...as the saying goes, truth is stranger than fiction. I, too, have worn more than my fair share of bodily fluids and often find myself wondering why I ever thought attending nursing school (and getting a graduate nursing degree at 35) would be a good idea. Simple. Hearing the words "thank you", cuddling a newborn, or holding the hand of a dying patient make it all worthwhile. Every last crazy "full moon on a Friday the 13th" type of day leaves me wanting more. I highly recommend this book!!
Yes, grammar and spelling do matter as lack of both stop the reader and are distracting. The author's first book was better in this respect.As for the stories-- each one is too short as if written in haste. It's an entertaining read and makes one realize what nurses go through. That said, I wish the author had more compassion and didn't use a condescending tone regarding the patients. Unfortunately he comes across (in both books) as a nurse with an ego. I'm sure he is excellent at nursing but he makes it seem that the patient who is docile and smiling through pain is the best way to behave in an ER. Yes, there are many horrible patients out there, but the book could use a dose of compassion and a bit more of true, non-wry humor.
Dani is a born storyteller! (And I got validation that I'm a good patient!) He clearly loves his job, and as a retired cop, I can relate to the gallows humor. Like I said, I literally just busted up so much, I had tears.This, after lying down to read a "bit", the fun, (and sun), just vanished.For anyone who wants to hear the truth and get a great laugh, as well as insight, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!P.S. Think you're pregnant...BUY A STICK!
I enjoyed it! I am a retired paramedic so it was fun to re-visit what were our normal days. People, it is called an EMERGENCY ROOM for a reason, not a because it is free, not because you didn't want to make an appointment and go to your doctors office. Don't be surprised when you are sitting your butt in triage, paramedics bringing you in will tell the ER you don't need to go straight back if you call the boo boo bus as a taxi.
Loved the book! Really interesting and entertaining. I wish Mr. Jacobs would write another longer book . Great read! Would highly recommend it.
I have seen a lot both in a ambulance and in the E.."R. You sure do bring back memories.Keep the books coming.
