The fight for air superiority began the day the Korean War started and only ended with the armistice three years later. Once the shock of the North Koreans’ invasion wore off, it did not take long for the United States Air Force, assisted by other United Nations air forces, to destroy the North Korean Air Force. The arrival of the MiG–15 in November 1950, often flown by Soviet pilots, changed things considerably however. For the remainder of the war, bitterly contested air battles were fought almost daily. Yet despite a decided numerical superiority in jet fighters, the Communists were never able to gain air superiority, testament to the skill and training of the UN fighter pilots, primarily those U.S. Air Force airmen flying the magnificent F–86 Sabre.

Published by the Air Force History and Museum Program and written by William T. Y'Blood, MIG ALLEY: THE FIGHT FOR AIR SUPERIORITY is a 48-page pamphlet covering the air war waged over North Korea from 1950 to 1953.After a short summary of the initial ground and air fighting in and over South Korea, Y'Blood shifts the scene to North Korean aispace, specifically 'MiG Alley.' He describes the introduction of the MiG-15 and then the F-86 and the subsequent air battles waged between the two and various other Allied aircraft. Most of the descriptions of air battles are, be necessity, cursory but Y'Blood does cover several notable engagements in a little depth. He also charts the evolving air war, changing tactics, use of Russian and Chinese MiG pilots, etc. The book is illustrated with two dozen b&w photographs of pilots, aircraft, gun camers shots, etc.In short, MiG ALLEY is a basic primer on the subject. Since it was published in 2000, some of the material on kills and kill totals is a bit dated but the book is otherwise an accurate overview of combats over MiG Alley. Your call, folks.
I enjoyed reading about the United States Air Force's first battles as a independant branch of the military. Korea gave the Air Force it's baptism of fire into America's first conflict of the Cold War. Recommended for any history buff of the U.S. Air Force.
Terse story of air combat in Korea. One of the best. Worth recommending to all war history buffs.There have been too few books about this aspect of the Korean war.
There are too many details about who shot down who, where and when, whereas I was expecting a narrative about the overall campaign.
This supposed book is just a few pages of descriptions of the Korean air war and some facts. Shame on you for selling this as a book and charging even 99 cents for this.
a damn fine read, well written and factual, holding nothing back. Not five star simply because it is first person by a fighter pilot, not a professional writer. But, I thought it was far above average for such an account.
