Another we'll written story - the best part is the author putting inside what the corps of marines is really like, unless you've been there you can never know. One minor gripe. Chaplains, and medical services are provided to the marines by the US Navy.

A very interesting, if innocent tale of Marines in Nam and WWII. The book is innocent in the respect that it deals with issues that all young servicemembers must face, mortality. You can see the main character mature as he gets older and discovers that there really is "no finer way to live or die" than being a Marine. But the book is highly entertaining. Very motivational, great for young people who are thinking of joining the military or young Marines. Semper Fi!

Outstanding book, ever since Johnnie Clark wrote his first book "Guns Up" he has been on the stage as a great author. This book is historically accurate, from the weapons to the tatics and the battles. Personally I didn't like the ending, but that's life. (Iron Horse Marine)

Love reading Johnnie Clarks books, he is all Marine and writes great books about Marines and this book is a story of the life ofa young man before and during his life in the Marine Corps, World War Two thru Vietnam, good times and bad and loss of innocence.Great read.

great personal story of a young marine, and the search for the meaning of life & forgiveness, must read the sencond book, 'no better way to die' to get the conclusion to his life & search. very fast reading and informative.

Mr Clark's abilities to transform you into the story is incredible. I enjoyed the warmth and insight into the Old Corps.
