This book is classic Galeano. Concise yet lyrical prose, passionate writing about a matter in which he is clearly invested deeply, and a brilliant historical recount. Although the book is a history of soccer, its origins, greatest matches, greatest players, and greatest goals, it is also not without relevance to the more serious issues Galeano presents in other works. The book is peppered with Pan-American nationalist sentiment and social commentary. A must-read for Galeano fans, and a good introduction for newbies.
