Daphnis Et Chloé, Suite No. 2 (Dover Miniature Music Scores)

This 20th-century orchestral masterpiece offers a rich musical setting of a pastoral Greek fable by Longus. Commissioned by Diaghilev for the Ballet Russes, the work premiered in Paris in 1912. The lush scoring dramatically displays the composer's genius for transmuting a traditional musical idiom into a fresh and stirring language of his own, ranging from audacious and driving to softly and hauntingly beautiful.Reproduced here from the original French edition, the score appears with rehearsal-numbered movements. Ideal for study in the classroom, at home, or in the concert hall, this affordable, high-quality, conveniently sized volume will be the edition of choice for music students and music lovers alike.

This was a sorry waste of $8; the print resolution is terrible. Almost an offense to the buyer- I can't believe this quality is being sold in a book. I prefer printed scores to reading on a screen any day, but for this one you are much better off using imslp.

There's no other piece quite like Ravel's gorgeous Daphnis and Chloe Suite No. 2 - dynamic climax and sparkling textures. This score is among my orchestration bibles, and is small enough for me to slip in my purse or bag. As always, the Dover score is a good buy, portable, and sturdy, with crisp clean pages and an easy-to-read font.

Daphnis et Chole is one my favorite pieces of music, it sounds like nothing else I've ever heard. This work is every bit the equal of Bolero and would have made Ravel an important composer all on it's own. It has one of the most unique scores I've ever seen, he often divides violins, violas and cellos into multiple parts and his use of a bass flute is also a unique touch. Very interesting to see a master orchestrator at his peak. Dover has used larger formats on other scores, 12x9 this one is 8x6 but still very readable and a must have for anyone interested in orchestration.

Arrived in great condition.
