" When your head and your heart are at odds, listen to your, heart. Your head can always be fixed later " I really enjoy mystery historical fiction. Also I have a lifetime love affair with ancient Egypt. This series of books quench both those yearnings.
I've enjoyed other books by this author. For some reason, nobody thought to proofread this book before releasing it to the public. The typos, the wrong use of words (spellcheck doesn't pick up everything) the Insertion of characters in the middle of other people's conversations was weird. Some parts look like conversations were cut and pasted into the wrong place. The story itself was good.
I really got into this series but I have to say that as it moves along there are more editing errors, wrong words, grammar, misspelling, etc. The premise is good and I love the main characters but Mr. Burns needs a good editor, proofreader, or beta readers. It really takes me out of the story with too many mistakes that should have been edited.
The ratings would be higher if the series didn't have so many errors in the texts. Apparently, many authors or their publishers don't consider paying attention when setting up works for e-readers. Spelling, wrong words being substituted, added spaces and lines - in the end they can ruin great books, not just good ones. Add when the author allows you to read a series for free.... I hate having to lower the overall score for such laziness.SPOILERS BELOW:The stories are interesting with good characters, but I would have them read for historical accuracy and attention to detail if they were mine. This could be a really excellent and long-term series with just a bit more effort. I also was rather peeved that after six books, the main characters still haven't worked out their personal and professional relationships.Having read Allen Drury's "A God Against the Gods" when it was first published and then moving on to Agatha Christie's "Death Comes As the End" gave me the Egyptian bug. Forty-two years later, I know enough on the subject to be bothered by such errors. And as these are mysteries that turn on the details of daily life, they should be correct.I do hope we get another book, one that just doesn't leave us hanging if the author decides to write about other things.
Mr. Burns has a vivid imagination and, mixed with some actual history, his stories read very quickly. I would love to read more about Neti and Shabaka in the future. These books need to be edited, however. Some of the spelling and grammar is very bad -some of the names even changed - making difficult sometimes to understand. I still want to read more! When does the 7th book come out?
While the main characters of the series's are compelling, the end of this addition falls flat. A rather one dimensional and cursory treatment of the aftermath of the climax undermines the depth of the relationships in play. The quality of the narrative is further undermined by numerous spelling and grammatical errors. However, I still find myself strangely addicted to the series.
Your story was enthralling. Alabama is my favorite new character. The Nubian culture was easily as rich as the Egyptian, and you did it justice. I sincerely hope you continue Be to bad Shabakas story.
This is such a fabulous series. intrigue, romance, and believable characters. A lot of research into ancient Egypt is very apparent. Looking for forward to the next book. Great job Nathaniel Burns.
