The Norton Anthology Of Drama: Antiquity Through The Eighteenth Century, Vol. 1

The most comprehensive and distinctive collection of its kind, The Norton Anthology of Drama, Volume 1 offers thirty major plays, the most carefully prepared introductions, annotations, and play texts, and a distinctive and convenient format. Less expensive than rival anthologies, The Norton Anthology of Drama is also the best value―a book that students will keep long after the class is over.

I am a beginner at reading plays and dramas, so take this review how you will. I personally love this book's translation and format. It was much easier to read than other translations and formats that I have seen and tried to read.

This book has a wonderful selection of plays from historical periods. It also contains descriptions of the theatre styles popular during each period and location which is interesting and useful if you are thinking of doing an authentic historical play.

I read most of the plays in this book for my Theater History 201 class at the University of Massachusetts Boston. I do like the selection of plays in this book as well as the one, which goes from the 18th century to the present day.

~Used as a classroom text in Theater History course, University if Montana. Excellent source of material with great bibliography material for further research.~

Every early major play is in this book with a detailed bio and info on the playwright. Every theatre student needs this book.
