A great product for Russian learners! Having used a number of prior texts that I felt either didn't provide the right level of support or were honestly quite dull, I am very impressed with this work. I felt that this anthology did a great job coding each poem with the right level of difficult and providing thorough support. It also had a breadth of poems--some easier and others more difficult. This kept me always excited as it allowed me to read some poems for leisure while others to greatly improve my language abilities. Moreover, the annotations were invaluable to expanding my grammar and vocabulary understanding. And, those excerices really made sure I understood the text (or let me know when I didn't...). I'd highly recommend this book for both beginner and advanced learners.

A great way to learn the poems that many of my Russian friends seem to know my memory. I've been reading the poems with a native Russian speaker, to get a feel for the sounds and flow of the language. Even though I will probably always speak Russian with a foreign accent, hopefully my speech is already becoming more fluid and intelligible. Reading has also helped tremendously with vocabulary retention, and I feel I'm getting a deeper perspective into Russian thought and culture.

This is the book I've been looking for.I took Russian in college years ago, and having forgotten so much of it had been looking for a good way to brush up. It starts at the elementary level, so I can feel comfortable from the beginning. Most importantly, the companion website, to be finished September 2015 will have audio files of all the texts so I can check my pronunciation as I go. Not available for almost any other book except for the conversational courses.

As a student who has taken Russian for a few years, I can confidently say that this is one of the best Russian readers on the market. In other textbooks and supplementary materials, the readings are dry, contrived, and often unhelpful. This is not the case with Julia Titus's book! The poems selected are well-known staples of Russian literary culture, meaning that by studying these works, readers not only improve their Russian speaking and reading proficiency, but also familiarize themselves with classic Russian texts. I found it far easier to pick up new vocabulary while learning it in the context of poetry than by memorizing it from the glossary of a traditional textbook, making this book invaluable for vocab acquisition. But the best feature of Titus's book is its versatility; it offers poems suitable for students at every stage of Russian, and these difficulty levels are clearly labeled for each poem. Whether you're a novice who's just starting out on your Russian journey or a seasoned pro who's ready to tackle the subtleties of Russian grammar, this book will prove to be an excellent resource!

This book is an excellent collection of Russian poetry. It is masterfully edited and includes a variety of different exercises that are instrumental in helping to learn the Russian language. I highly recommend it for all students of Russian regardless of their level of exposure to the language.
