I bought this as a required textbook. It's the "shorter" version, but it's not exactly small and lightweight, which makes me wonder what the larger or normal sized version looks like. It's your basic English class anthology, maybe slightly larger than the other Nortons. I bought it here because this was hands down the best price I could find for this text.
I really enjoy the anthologies by Norton. I have purchased this one and the Southern Literature anthology by this publisher for classes. The short bios that precede the actual stories are fantastic for providing context to the stories themselves and while I don't like the thin pages (which don't allow for highlighting if you are using this book for class) it allows for a bigger book with more pages/information without weighing a ton.
The book has very thorough footnotes in regards to the older plays, which is very helpful when trying to understand diction and translations. The pages before the main play about the author and their work are often helpful when it comes time to read their plays. Context and background of personal views often put the story into context and allow you to analyze the play past the words on the page.The professor I have for the class said that some of the translations are terrible only because the company chooses the cheapest translator to compile this edition, so be wary of that and that some of the written work may be edited and omitted. Further research of other editions and translations may be needed if you're writing about a particular piece in this book.
Concise, clear script with an easy-to-read text. The potency of the works are well-presented in this anthology.
