This book was written to be a useful resource for hobbyists, lawyers, professors, businessmen, or anyone wanting to know what is going on legally to integrate what are called unmanned aircraft, “drones,” or remotely piloted aircraft into the United States’ airspace. While many individuals have been talking about the Fourth Amendment concerns with unmanned government aircraft (public unmanned aircraft), this book does not focus on those privacy concerns. This book will give an overview about unmanned aircraft and then explore their uses. Finally, this book will dive into the statutes, regulations, and policy statements surrounding unmanned aircraft.CONVENIENT CHART ON RECREATIONAL DRONE RULES. This is a useful guide but will probably be obsolete in a few months as new regs are developed. Still, there's lots of good info on airspace allocations, definitions and terminology and some nice insight into the twisted world of FAAthink. Also a good primer on the massive potential of even hobby-level drones as well as the equally massive problem of user responsibility. Recommended reading for all multirotor pilots, and useful for fixed-wingers, too.

Jonathan Rupprecht does a great job of communicating what is keeping UAS from literally taking off into the sky. His book is a point-blank, down and dirty guide into the government laws and regulations concerning what is more commonly known as "drones.""Drones" are the future of America and Rupprecht outlines this as he initially goes into detail of their many benefits and uses outside of war zones, especially in regard to agriculture and search and rescue. I already had an understanding of Certificates of Airworthiness and other documentation needed to legally fly UAS but this book showed me more than what I thought I knew and enhanced that understanding.Furthermore, Rupprecht articulately points out the many fallacies in FAA doctrine and rule-making. This is important for Americans to know so that we can successfully navigate further drone regulation and rule-making. This way privacy and safety concerns will be efficiently addressed and drones can be successfully integrated into the national airspace.On top of the excellent content Rupprecht also provides a small army of references with which one can learn even more about the up and coming world of drones. I highly recommend reading this book!

The author is perfectly qualified on the topic of UAVs and the law, as an attorney, pilot and flight instructor. This is not a "light" read, but an in depth view into the relation between the emerging "drone" culture and the evolving legal structure surrounding it, as well as touching on the inevitable controversies. This book can also serve as a reference resource, tracing the recent history of "drones" from the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 through the 2013 "Roadmap", and touching on the sensitive issue of "enforcement". As such, the book lives up to the author's stated goal of providing "a useful resource for hobbyists, lawyers, businessmen, or anyone just wanting to know what is going on legally to integrate what are called unmanned aircraft, “drones,” or remotely piloted aircraft into the United States’ airspace."

A good source of information. All drone pilots should read this to avoid running afoul of current and pending laws. Helpful to learn what potential controls the federal government my put on drone use if we do not fly responsibly. Not a book for the "toy" quadcopter flyer, but a must for the high flyers.

Extremely helpful and informative from a regulations standpoint and a must read if you are getting into the Drone Integration Space. Not only does it provide a background of the history of UAV and Model Aircraft, but it outlines the major issues with each piece of information. Additionally, The dichotomy between public vs civil aircraft also were very informative.It was also great to see a book talk about the need of a Risk Assessment for integration in the national airspace. Also provides a good rubric for the classes of airspace.

My husband was looking for an in-depth look at the UAS industry and regulations, so I found him this book. He was very pleased with the insight in Mr. Rupprecht's book which has guided him through some business planning for a client. He was even able to get in direct touch with Jonathon after the read to get some specific advice and follow up information. We will definitely be on the lookout for future writings from Mr. Rupprecht.

This is a very good book to learn about the regulatory process for UAVs and a history of aviation law. I would like to introduce my students to this material and will be requiring it as a must read (paperback) for my courses. A big thank you to Jonathan to organizing all this material and explaining the process for those without a law degree and aviation background. I think it is a big insight to the future and yes the regulations will change, so we hope you will write another book soon!!
