I've had a copy of Tony Harrison's translation of 'The Bartered Bride' since the 'Live from the Met' broadcast in 1978. It's a very clear, unfussy translation that doesn't rely on forced rhymes or overly cute wording. It's a very singable, down-to-earth version, using language you can believe would be used by mid-19th century villagers. If you'd like to hear it for yourself, the entire 'Live from the Met' production is available on YouTube, featuring Teresa Stratas and Nicolai Gedda as Marenka and Jenik respectively.
