Juan G Atienza was a prolific writter of all things esoteric. His incursion in the life of Isabelle of Castille is best understoood as an exercise of the new-found freedom of transition in the Spain of the post Francoist democracy than a treaty of solid scholarship to shed light on a character and era in so much need of revision. Many of the sources are missing and the book fails to provide rigorous and careful review and use of the historical record, the very same problem with francoist literature he is fighting in this book. It can be a dissapointing purchase to a non-ideologically driven reader.
