I own Mastering Sibelius 5, figured I should get Mastering Sibelius 6 since I own version 6 of Sibelius. Should have saved my money, really not much new and the size of this book is wider and taller but thinner than the MS5 book (I preferred the smaller footprint size of MS5 over MS6).What really irked me about this book though, and the author, is that in the very short chapter on using video (film) with Sibelius 6, there is a pop up dialog box screenshot where the author mentions a couple of things, but then he says that there are too many options on the dialog box than there is time to discuss here in the book. WTF? Are you kidding me? The whole purpose of the book is to take the time to discuss those features, and really there were only about a dozen options (Features) to discuss on that dialog box that would have taken maybe 3 pages at most. That told me the author was either lazy or not knowledgeable on the matter or both, and either way that is very disappointing. That would have been great new material to expand on in the book. Shame on the author, shame on the editor and publisher for letter that happen in the book. But if you do not yet own a book on Sibelius, it is a good book for learning fundamentals and features of Sibelius, although there is nothing in the book you won't get with the free electronic manual that comes with Sibelius, just that with the book you do not have to burden your printer and waste toner or ink and paper printing a manual.
This is an excellent presentation of Sibelius. It is well formatted and much easier to follow than the complimentary Sibelius electronic manual. It greatly assisted me in clarifying many of the more complex features of the program. I was well worth the purchase price.
As a former Finale user I made the switch to Sibelius 6 and found the help files everything but helpful, so I purchased this book. It has been a fantastic guide and has allowed me to be very confident in my Sibelius skills in a very short time. I strongly disagree with some of the previous posts, as they are comparing this book to another. It stands one its own as a wonderful resource and clear, easy to follow guide to Sibelius.I strongly recommend this book for any user of Sibelius, no matter the level.
Excellent book. The manual is a great resource to have on the shelf; when a question arises, you can look up the topic you need. But this book isn't a manual; it's a book that you sit down to read cover to cover. Unlike a manual, this book taught me a great deal that I wouldn't have known to ask or look up. Even after using Sibelius for a couple of years now, there was a lot in the book that was new to me. Highly recommended.
I have been a professional choral composer for many years. I have also been a faithful user of the Sibelius music publishing program from the day it was introduced to the public. The technical matericals that came with each upgrade were adequate, but missed answering MY specific questions at the moment of creative/technical problems! Now comes the best resource next to my SONY keyboard..."Mastering Sibelius 6"! Try and find some issue or technical matter that is not covered in this compendium of Sibelius and I'll eat my next Sibelius-generated manuscript!
