(Vocal Collection). This is a collection from Ricordi, Puccini's original publisher, of 11 songs for voice and piano by the great opera composer Puccini. The songs span from his earliest student work to 1921. Though some are more intimate than his expansive opera arias, others are fully operatic in style. The 1888 song "Sole e amore" was later adapted into the Act III quartet in La boheme . The edition includes historical notes and English translations for study.

If you are familiar with the very tall and beautiful (though unwieldy) coffee-table book, "The Unknown Puccini," these songs will be familiar to you. It's great to finally have these songs in a more portable/playable form. I still recommend the original book for the biographical and compositional information.
I love Puccini's music and a selection of this book's music will be included for sure in my next recital.
