Full of beautiful artwork featuring 100 rule-breaking, precedent-setting women, this delightful volume is not only the perfect coffee table accent (all the pretty pictures!) but it's a brilliant and inspiring read to boot. The depictions are very stunning, and the write ups that accompany each illustration are jammed with useful tidbits of information. Who knew a history lesson could be so much fun?
This is a beautifully illustrated book that is great for anyone. It introduces inspiring, diverse women in a way that is accessible to most age groups.When reading this book, I found myself googling and further researching many of the women mentioned, I was that inspired! I already bought another copy for my girlfriend and she also loves it.
A beautiful hardcover book that has brief bios of 100 remarkable women - it's not an exhaustive list, but a great way to whet your appetite to learn more about some fantastic women who've made an impact on history. I learned of many women for the first time through Ann's book (like Mata Hari - what an incredible story!) and had no idea Josephine Baker was a spy! I can't wait to dig into their stories on my own. The illustrations are also delightful - wish there was an option to include the prints of the illustrations so I can frame them! :PI've already shown this to many friends, especially those who have young daughters and can't wait to share with more friends the amazing stories of these remarkable women.
Such a beautiful book, from the amazing illustrations to the thought provoking text. It is very inspirational and a must read for everyone, from children to adults. It includes a broad range of women from different backgrounds and I leaned a lot from reading it.This is a great book to give as a gift or keep for yourself!
I've been a fan of Ann Shen for many years. I purchased this a few years ago while it was in it's miniature zine version, I was so excited to hear it would be printed in a larger, higher quality, expanded format. This book did not disappoint. Ann Shen's whimsical art style is beautiful and is worthy of all the women included. I'm sure there are so many more she wished she could have included. Bad Girls Throughout History 2 anyone?!
A fun, lively look at women from as early as the Bible (Lilith) to as recent as Malala Yousafzai. Each is represented by a beautiful illustration & a brief biography which inspired me to find out more about these women. A bibliography at the end provides us with some guidance on where to go next.This would make a great gift for a young gal (jr. high, high school, college grad gift) and also a good starting point for a young man who wants to learn more about powerful women who have made a difference. Also perfect for a gift between friends.I was also pleased to see the inclusion of less obvious "bad" women like Nora Ephron, Mary Quant, Sister Corita Kent, and Mary Blair.
This is such a beautiful book, packed with thoughtful profiles and stunning portraits of 100 truly fascinating, complex, and groundbreaking women who all made history. It’s also such an excellent resource— I found myself looking up about every woman featured and binge-learning even more of their legacies. Worth reading and rereading, it's an excellent gift for just about anyone. I love this book and plan to share my copies as gifts for my sisters and with as many friends as possible.
