I am a big fan of the music of the 1930's and especially of Rodgers and Hart. This collection has all the favorites I was looking for along with many other beautiful tunes that I was unfamiliar with. It is a pleasure to play the new ones and discover something unknown. I also like the fact that they have all the original show introductions to the tunes, which are often as engaging as the songs themselves.

Had tremendous success playing this music to accompany a fashion show. Large clear print, not too difficult, a joy to play. Mary G.

Review of "Rodgers and Hart: A Musical Anthology," 288 pp. Published by Hal Leonard in 1995. Paperback.I have played through about half of the 73 songs in this anthology, and so far they are all delightful and very enjoyable to play. (I am interested mostly in the music rather than the lyrics.) The music is amazing in its creative harmony and provides constant surprises. I am sure this will provide much pleasure for quite a time to come. I bought the book for a full version of the legendary jazz classic "My Funny Valentine," and I was very pleased. There are many other songs in this book that are worth exploring, that have great potential for improvisation and re-arrangement. For example, "You Are Too Beautiful" (copyright 1932, written in C Major), that sounds to me more like 1952 - chord progressions like Em6 - Gdim - Dm7 or Cmaj7 - Em7 - Eb7 - Dm7.About half the songs are apparently in their original sheet music form (with redone titles), and the others have been re-formatted with smaller slightly smaller notes and smaller lyrics - still quite readable, though. Both formats have guitar chords, the re-formatted songs with fingering diagrams under each. The paperback format is difficult to manage; it will be a necessity for me to have it rebound so the pages will be easier to turn. Organization of the book is confusing - alphabetical by the title of the Broadway show (or film) in which the song appeared. Dates of the plays (films) don't appear in the index, and the names of the plays are not given with the songs. I would have much preferred chronological order. The copyright dates are of some help here, but some copyright dates are confusing - in the '60s and '70s, and Hart died in 1943! (We could use an online data base of song titles, with authors, composers, and copyright information)Price was very reasonable. The book format and arrangement don't detract much from the wonderful music. I give it 4-1/2 stars.

Rodgers and Hart - A musical anthology is one of the best collections of songs and lyrics that I have ever found outside of a sheet music company. In it, I have found songs for which there is no readily available sheet music and the cost for the volume of music provided is pennies compared to other sources. No, folks, this is the GREATEST COLLECTION OF SONGS & LYRICS I've ever seen. Thank you, !

This is the most readily available anthology of the songs of Rodgers and Hart, and therefore it is a must for lovers of the Great American Songbook. All of Rodgers and Hart's hits are included, it seems to me, and the music lies decently on a piano music stand. My main complaint is that verses are not included in some of the songs (see, for example, all of the song selections from "On Your Toes"); this is a disappointment, since some of Rodgers's best music (and Hart's cheekiest lyrics) are contained in those verses.

This is a fine collection of the great composer R.Rodgers.Very fine printing and informative text and photos as well.Highly recomended.
