Helping my son with middle school science, we chucked the text book and thumbed through 'Earth'. Clear accurate pictures can sometimes convey concepts (like movement) better than descriptions.I also liked being able to interact with my son vis a vis well labeled diagrams. Having taken an introductory college class on geology, I found it fun and reinforcing.
We have many of these books already, and were happy to find this used copy of Earth to add to our collection. My kids use these books as part of their curriculum, and they are always good jumping points to our own experiments and discoveries.
I used the illustrations in an adult education class I'm leading.It is a very good resource in explaining mountain formation, for instance.
