I do not own an enormous poetry library. My preference is fiction. But I have my favorites like Yeats, Frost, Wordsworth, Byron, Service and more contemporary poets like Dara Reidyr. But this slender volume of verse by Rilke will take a place alongside the older classical poets and the newer generation. His verses are concise, focused and intensely vivid in it's imagery and vision. It's too bad that he has been overshadowed by so many others in recent decades. His work may not be quoted by undergraduates but he offers a look into early 20th century German literature. He has a clear voice and he uses it effectively and succinctly.I recommend this book to anyone who wants to uncover a poet whose work has been largely overlooked.
To me, :Collected poetry" should mean all the poems of that poet. This is only a tiny number of poems,and I did not see that it was only 30 pages long. I own lots of Rilke poetry. I just wanted the full collected works, which this slim volume is not.
