Gunner's Glory makes you want to hear every Vet's story, because you know that for every one you hear there has to be hundreds more just as amazing. These first hand accounts are a fascinating testimony to the courage of our fighting men and to the faithful God that sustains them. I particularly appreciate Johnnie's writing style. He keeps the book as clean as possible without whitewashing the harsh realities of war. If you haven't read Guns Up! I'd highly recommend it as well.
This is a MUST READ book. This book captured the horror and what really happened in Vietnam. If you have been hearing story's of how inhuman OUR boy were it's about time you got the real story! The Real Truth. The Baby Killer's were the VA and the NVA not Americans. I know some of these coward here tried to blame the American Soldiers, calling them Barbarians and Baby Killers, on and on. Read this book and get educated to the truth of every day life for the American Soldiers.
I was a 60-gunner in Korea during the Cold War. It was great to read these stories of other gunners. These stories from WWII to Vietnam make you very sad sometimes and yet very proud at the same time. Good book for those who have served and a great book for those who do not understand what we did (or what others are still doing).
A well constructed book,tells the stories of some courageous marines, during different conflicts,who because of their trainingfought valiantly with and for their fellow marines, Johnnie M. Clark writes great books about Marines and machine gunnerswhich are hard to put down, if the Vietnam war experiance or marines' experiances in other conflicts interests you, then I highly recommend you read Johnnies books.
This was an eye opener on stories untold before. Have read many military books but this was an area machine guns, that I never read about before and the importance and bravery of these men. Well done.
Johnnie Clark is my brother, he loved being a Marine and believed in what he was doing. He fought for his country and the people who live here, as do our brave men and women do now, and still some people don't believe in what they are doing. God help each of them understand that without brave men and women like my brother,you wouldn't be free. He still loves his country, the Marines, but most of all he loves and serves His God to the fullest extent. Knowing that with Him all things are possible. Phil.4:13 His life in Viet Nam was lived in this book, no one will ever know the pain, loss and love, unless they experience this first hand in a war...Unless you walk in their shoes, this is the closes you'll get to being there. My prayers are with each one fighting to help keep America free, for those who have already served, those who gave all...
I thought this book was very well written from a perspective that isn't normally taken. Who thinks of the mortal danger ignited when you pull the trigger on a belt of bullets laced with tracers, making you the prime target of the enemy?
Well researched and very readable story of USMC Machine Gnners. Having been an enlisted 0331 for seven years, I feel I feel a particular closeness to, and affinnity for, the characters in the stories. I Recommend this story for the Platoon Leader in training, and will, in fact, donate ten copies of this book to the Basic School Library.
