What a fantastic way to learn about our country's history, the people who formed it, putting names with faces, and also learning many interesting facts about our great nation.The book is spectacular. That is the only way to describe this tome. This book is over sized and the over 300 pages are jammed with maps, paintings, old and wonderful pictures, information on just about anything you could think of relating to the westward movement of our country.Names and information of people you are familiar with regarding our nation -- Annie Oakley, Lewis and Clark, presidents, Jesse James - and so on and so on -- read about them in this book. Their contributions to our country are so interesting and some unknown facts are brought to light. There are so many others mentioned whose names will not ring a bell with you; however, they are an important part of our nation and it's glory.There are several chapters and they are --WESTWARD EXPANSIONTHE MEXICAN WAR AND TE GOLD RUSHPRESERVING THE UNION AND SPANNING THE CONTINENTWAR FOR THE PLAINSLAW AND DISORDERTHE LAST FRONTIERSOne of my favorite parts of the book was WHAT BECAME OF THEM which features Daniel Boone, Black Hawk, William Clark, Meriwether Lewis, Kit Carson, just to name a few.
