Very well written. Very typical of what you would expect to read about the real Mountain Men of the Northwest. I've always been intrigued by Hugh Glass and other trappers of the Northwest and this book really takes you there and let's you understand the hard, rugged lifestyle they endured.
John Coulter was with the Lewis and Clark exposition of 1804. After the trip ended, 1806, Coulter mustered out and immediately returned to the wilderness of the Missouri. He made many discoveries in what is now Wyoming and Montana. While many other explorers have documented their trials and tribulations, we know very little on Coulter's adventures - it is believed he was mainly a trapper. This book is rather short. A great read of our early history of the West.
The short story, as that is all that it was, would have been much better if more had been known an written about John Copter but because of the time period and the lack of education of the primary characters we have to rely on what is available.Still a good story of an exceptional man and a brief period in his life.
Good book, just wasn't long enough since I enjoy books about that era.
Very good.
Always interested in knowing more about Colter and his life. A tough life!Lived in Montana and heard about the Annual foot race named Co!ters Run. I understand about its true meaning now.
Good story of Colter's life, I enjoyed it!
This is a short sketch rather than a book. The author compiles what little material is available about Coulter. The reader wishes there were more.
