I'm just getting back into alto sax after over 30 years and picked this up to have some fun relearning the sax. The book is divided into tenor/soprano and alto/baritone sections with the same songs written for each. So if you only play one type of sax, like me, you really only get half a book. This still works out to 15 songs for ten bucks or 67 cents per song. With one exception. In Mozart's "A Little Night Music" there seems to be an unplayable note. In measures 18 and 20, it looks like a low G on the second half of the third beat. The last time I checked, the lowest I can go is B flat. I googled on this and found out that there is a limited production alto that can go down to A, but I can't find anything that shows how to get to low G on an alto. If there's a way to hit low G, please respond to this review and let me know. Otherwise, I think Mr. Marco should rewrite this song and post a pdf copy on the page for the product. So at the time of this post the math works out to 14 songs for 10 bucks or 71 cents per song. That's still a good price for fun and easy sheet music which is why I give it three stars. I'll just have to look elsewhere for eine kleine nacht muzik.
The book does deliver easy versions of classical songs. It would if the book didn't duplicate songs for E Flat and B Flat instruments. To me that is a waste. It would be better if the songs were not key specific with a user understanding that this is for developing note reading which is what I use it for.It is a good buy and there are definitely benefits for this book. Long as you are aware of what you will be getting.
I got this book for my daughter. She already knew how to play the flute and clarinet and just got a saxophone, so she needed some music to play. This is great for a first or second year student.
It will serve as a good stepping stone for a beginner trying to read, or in my case someone intermediate who is trying to improve sight reading. I am a jazz guy, so most of these tunes seem to be the overused classical songs but are fun and memorable to practice and also have some nice shapes to tweak for soloing.
