Knife & Tomahawk Throwing: The Art Of The Experts

"Knife & Tomahawk Throwing helps keep alive these traditional arts of the old West. In these pages you will learn about the fundamentals of the sport and gain insight into some of the greatest professional knife throwers–the men who paved the way for the modern day thrower." — Bobby Branton, President of the American Knife Thrower's Alliance (AKTA)Harry McEvoy, foremost expert in the field of tomahawk and knife throwing and best-selling author of Knife Throwing: A Practical Guide, provides us with an exciting, in-depth look at the popular sport of weapon throwing.Meet the men who throw flaming knives at lovely ladies on a spinning target—and not scorch a hair; learn about the legendary "Skeeter" Vaughan, whose record-breaking throw saved the lives of hundreds of U.S. servicemen during World War II; and witness the courage of Tony Cascarella, who brought down a 275-pound wild boar with only three Bowie-Axe throwing knives. In addition, this book will clearly show you the skills involved in knife and tomahawk throwing—skills all the professionals first mastered before attempting the daring feats required when performing the "impalement arts." Also presented is an interesting history of throwing-knives, from the earliest times, through the development of the European daggers, and up to the knives used during the Vietnam War. Furthermore, you'll learn about many of the other throwing weapons of the world, including the martial arts weapons used by the Japanese ninja, and the deadly boomerangs of the Australian aborigines.Concisely written and illustrated with more than 50 photographs—including many of the "greats" in action—Knife and Tomahawk Throwing is a must for anyone interested in these fascinating sports. An excellent treatise on the art of throwing things. I've been trying to throw knives for years now, unsuccessfully. After reading Harry McEvoy's first book "Knife Throwing: A Practical Guide" I had to read the follow-up. Terrific, alone or together, these books are a must read for anyone interested in throwing knives, or any weapon. The stories told by the author are fascinating as well as historical. Connect with knife throwers of the past and present, read these books.

I purchased this book from .com in May of 2000 and found it to be excellent. I have always wanted to know how to throw knives and after reading for just one hour, I took several kitchen knives and was sticking them in the backyard tree, eight out of ten times. I am ordering several professional throwing knives and recommend this book to anyone interested in the art of throwing knives or tomahawks. Towards the end of the book, the author shares a numbers of very interesting stories about professional knife throwers and those who hunt with throwing knives.

HARRY McEVOY WAS A DEAR FRIEND OF MINE LIKE HOWARD COLE.I NEVER MEET HIM IN PERSON,BUT TALKED AN CORRESPONDED WITH HIM FOR 15 YEARS BEFORE HE PASSED IN 1993.THIS IS THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE BOOKS ON KNIFE AN HAWK THROWING I HAVE EVER CAME ACROSS.I HAVE ALL THE BOOKS HE HAS WRITTEN,INCLUDING;SCAGEL THE MAN AND HIS KNIVES..I JUST RECEIVED.I ALSO HAVE TWO OF HIS THROWING KNIVES,A BOWIE AXE FROM THE 1970'S THAT WAS IN VIETNAM,BUT NEVER USED,HE GAVE ME.I ALSO BOUGHT A STINGER MODEL '91'BY HIS NEW COMPANY THROWING BOWIES BY McEVOY.IT IS #93 OF THE FIRST 100 MADE.AFTER YOU READ THIS BOOK YOU WILL BE ABLE TO THROW A KNIFE OR A TOMAHAWK LIKE AN EXPERT IN A COUPLE HOURS OF PRACTICE.I NEVER THRU EITHER OF HARRY'S KNIVES CAUSE I WANTED THEM MINT.BUT COLD STEEL HAS COME OUT WITH AN ALMOST EXACT COPY OF THE BOWIE AXE,AND A COUPLE OTHER COPIES OF HIS KNIVES.I WAITED A LONG TIME TO THROW A BOWIE AXE,NOW I HAVE ONE AS CLOSE TO THE ORIGINAL AS POSIBLE TO THROW.SO IF YOU WANT TO LEARN TO THROW,THIS BOOK IS GOLDEN,AND IS WORTH EVERY DIME,ESPECIALY AT THESE REASONABLE PRICES.MAY GOD BLESS HARRY'S SOUL..ROLAND DELAUNEY-RDR KNIVES

Some reviewers have been disappointed with this book, but I must say that all you need is this book, a little time, some open space, and a tomahawk. While I prefer Coldsteel's Norse hawk, and Bad Axe, I have found that the lessons learned in this book, have given me the ability to throw a tomahawk in remarkably little time.In the past, many people have advised me on some truly terrible advice. But, this book has helped me actually throw a tomahawk, and it is filled with interesting adecdotes too. It is everything that I could want from a book on the subject, but I must admit I would be interested in a DVD on the subject as well. If digital photography and video were around when this book was first written, that product would be an exceptional find. But, it is a book that I am reviewing, and I must say that it is well worth the money, and well worth the time it takes to read it.

You majority of the book deals with Knife throwing, there are examples on how to stand how to hold it etc. then you look for the section on Tomahawks and the author talks about known throwers, target creation but no examples. If you want to learn how to throw a tomahawk see the you tube you will learn a heck of a lot more.

Old school thrower, good information and I like the history and reading about the techniques they used. Yes, there are books more dedicated to techniques and How To but as a person who's been throwing knives and tomahawks I enjoyed this. Don't get me wrong, it does teach techniques. I think this is a good read for any thrower or somebody interested in throwing.

I enjoyed this book. It has plenty of photos and illustrations pertaining to proper grips and throwing motions for target and show knife/axe throwing. I say it is older info because the technology and manufacture of popular throwing knives seems to have changed quite a bit since this was published. Back then, bowie knives and larger throwing weapons seem to have been the weapons of choice, and although those are still available today, the craft seems to have moved in the direction of lighter and smaller blades, which tend to be more palm sized, at least as far as the knives go anyway (and require a bit of adaptation as far as throwing technique from what I have experienced). Either way, I felt this was an informative guide to throwing, and included much history pertaining to knife throwing as as craft and as entertainment. A good book to have on your shelf, available to reference as needed.Enjoy!

Harry McEvoy covers a wide range of knife throwing topics in this "knife throwing classic". Hunting, targets, history, the military and the most sought after tips and secrets of "throwing the steel". If this is your sport, buy it; read it once, read it ten times, I did.
