This has been my go-to book for church service solos for the past fifteen years. The pieces are nicely arranged and most can be easily modified to be played unaccompanied in a variety of settings. I recently repurchased this collection after the piano book walked off on me (as accompaniments are apt to do). The current edition is very cheaply made on regular white paper that looks like a glorified photocopy. My older edition was much more nicely constructed. The music itself can be played by anyone proficient in first and third positions, though there are one or two pieces that briefly extend into 4th and 5th ("O Holy Night" is one of these pieces). Overall the music is very well arranged and easily played, but the photocopy-like quality may leave something to be desired.
I was looking for pieces to play at church. These are nice enough arrangements but more classical than what I need. They'd be great for weddings. Not so much for Protestant offertories for a "low brow" church. Two Ave Marias (Gounod and Schubert), Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, Pachelbel's Canon, a couple other Bachs (Air for the g String, Sheep May Safely Graze), a couple by Mendelsson, etc. The piano parts require a fairly accomplished accompanist.
I adore this book, and have used mine for dozens of weddings and performances over the past 15 years or so. (The violin music is a removable booklet that's tucked inside the main book, which is the piano accompaniment). I bought this copy as a graduation present for one of my violin students. The only reason I give a 4-star rating instead of 5 is that the binding is cheaper than my old book, and I know it won't hold up as well as mine has.
Handy book to have for wedding gigs. They are easy enough over all with a few difficult shift changes. Overall I am happy with this product. I just got it today and still need to go thru entirely. I got it to supplement when I don't have in my other wedding book.
