I assign this volume, along with Classical Comedy - Greek and Roman: Six Plays, its companion volume, when I teach Western Authors I (our Continental European literature survey). Although the translations take liberties with the Greek and Latin texts, they bring across the energy of Greek and Roman drama nicely, allowing those intimidated by old books to experience these plays as part of "us" while retaining some of the alienness of the old world.My main complaint with the volume is the binding. I tend to be fussy with my own books, but students who treat their books roughly at all tend to have pages falling out by the end of our reading of Seneca.

Robert Corrigan has put together an amazing collection of classical plays. The translations are modern without losing the savvy and content of their original. This edition is sparse in stage directions which is the way it should remain. It was a real predilection for the modern translations to bear psychological truths and encript Stanislavskian drives to explain every character motivation. The correspondant critical essays are exciting to read and a perfect addition for students of Greek theatre.

Line numbering would have been helpful.

This was required as part of a history of theatre course in college and it includes a nice selection of tragic plays.
