So, I thought I knew or at least understand Oedipus. Everyone, old enough that is, knows or has heard of the "Oedipus Complex." Most, like myself, probably thought the way I did in understanding the Oedipus complex.Oedipus 'did not' knowingly marry his mother. He was destined by fate to kill his father and marry his mother, but when he realized it had happened, he blinded himself as a form of self torture.The Oedipus Complex was based on Freud's description of psycho-sexual development in children.
This is a fine edition of Oedipus, with a clear and understandable translation. The introduction is particularly helpful to prime your mind for comprehending the plot.
The best story ever written about an arrogant self righteous leader of his country who thinks he knows what he is talking about but he has no idea even who he is.
The reading was not as hard to understand as I thought it would be. The book was still interest even though it was written many years ago.
Enjoyed reading this book. Felt like I lived in that era. The book was well written. GREAT reading. Buy it!
