The Gold Of Exodus

Mount Sinai. For many, it is the most sacred place on Earth-- the site where God descended to give Moses the Ten Commandments. Yet for centuries, mankind has not known its exact location. In this heart-pounding true story, award-winning journalist and bestselling author Howard Blum tells the enthralling account of two modern-day adventurers-- Larry Williams, a two-time Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from Montana and a self-made millionaire, and his friend Bob Cornuke, a retired policemen and former SWAT team member. Lured by the prospect of finding the fabled fortune in gold that the ancient Hebrews took with them when they fled from Egypt, the two men set out to find the true site of Mount Sinai-- with only the Old Testament as a guide. Eminent biblical scholars at Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania have argued that Mount Sinai is not in the Sinai Peninsula at all, but rather in northwestern Saudi Arabia. However, they were never allowed into the kingdom to prove their argument. When Cornuke and Williams are also denied entry, they daringly sneak into Saudi Arabia. And what they discover at the mountain known as Jabal al Lawz will astonish the world-- and inspire readers to rethink the role of the Bible in history. They find the remains of the stone altar at which the Golden Calf was worshiped, the twelve pillars that Moses ordered to be erected, the cave where Moses slept, and, most sensationally, the unnaturally scorched spot on the mountaintop where God gave Moses the two stone tablets. They also explain, in a fascinating account, the truth about the parting of the Red Sea waters. And not the least of their discoveries is the fact that one of the most sacred spots on earth is now a top secret Saudi military base. As these two adventurers follow in Moses' footsteps, they become pawns in a dangerous game of international power politics and intrigue, This action-packed tale-- part high-tech treasure hunt, part modern-day spy thriller, and part biblical detective story-- is riveting. And it is all true.

I bought the book right after it was published. I couldn't put the book down....I read it all in just a few readings. I then recommended the book to others who were also fascinated after reading it It convinced me and others that the true Mt. Sinai is in Saudi Arabia.Others who are giving it low ratings are probably looking for data to disprove the Bible. Now we have further archeological evidence supporting the reality of the Bible, the Exodus, the plagues of Egypt, etc., and of course the Ten Commandments and the supernatural parting of the Red Sea. Charleton Heston acted as Moses in the well known 10 Commandments movie based heavily on a historically true account, with help from this book.I recently saw two documentary movies: One related to this book with videos and photos and interviews adding more evidence supporting the reality of both books, The Gold of Exodus and the Bible. The second was about the discovery of the likely location for the Ark of the Covenant which contains the 10 Commandments. Bob Cornuke, who was one of the treasure seekers in Gold of Exodus, traveled to Ethiopia to find its location, as well as author Graham Hancock, writer of the Sign & the Seal: The Quest for the Lost Ark of the Covenant. What exciting times. Noah's ark next?I recommend reading the Gold of Exodus and the Sign and the Seal for awesome and true archeological adventure stories.

This is a very interesting "true to life" adventure of two would be explorers/adventurers that stumble into one mishap after another. The pace is lively and exciting and this true account is put together very well. Everyone should enjoy this book.

Very exciting story with some great things to think about it. I read it for research for a project I'm working on. Gives a solid understanding of how difficult it is to get into Saudi Arabia and presents credible evidence on where the true Mt. Sinai is located.

An exciting mission of two men trying to find the real Mount Sinai. The book of Exodus from the Bible is their guide. I found the story to be compelling, easy to read and it kept me in suspense right to be end. I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys an adventure.

This was the second book I read about the adventures of Bob Cornuke. He and his friend Larry Williams wrote a short book, "The Mountain of God," which was interesting but this book was more colorful. Since it is written by a professional writer that is easily explained.

Book was chosen for book club and I was very skeptical until my wife commented that it was a true story. From that point on I could not put it down For believers and nonbelievers this is a great book. Recommended highly.

The story this book tells is incredible. What if they have really found the true Mt. Sinai? This is almost too incredible to believe. The text does dwell on a few conspiratorial theories that the Israelis and Arabic secret service is out to get the heroes of the book though. This detracts from the story of discovering the true mountain of God. Also the pictures in the book are interesting but it appears if they were taken at noon day. The ascent and following descent of the mountain took place during the night and early dawn. Maybe it gets light really quick in Saudi Arabia. Overall the book was easy to read and enjoyable and would recommend it to others. I just wish the author had documented the sources he used to a greater extent.

History is at our feet but buried by the sands of time. In his book ‘The Gold of Exodus’, Howard Blum takes us on a journey to rediscover some of this history and uncover the buried treasures of Exodus—the gold of Egypt. The road map his characters follow is the biblical account of the Jews leaving Egypt for the Promised Land. Based on this account, Exodus 3 (in the Bible) places Mount Sinai (where the gold is buried) as being either in Midian or very close to it, as Moses was tending to his father-in-law’s flock near God’s Mountain’ and his father-in-law was a Midianite. This means then that the true Mount Sinai lies in Saudi Arabia as this includes the ancient area of Midian. It is likely then that the mountain called Jabal al Lawz, is as claimed Mount Sinai. Up to this point the story appears to be a plausible account, but to me this is shattered when spies, nuclear weapons and political agendas are embroiled into the plot. While the authenticity of the bible continues to be vindicated as archaeology discoveries are made, this account of finding the gold and the adventure as described lacks credibility. The book is worth reading though is not easy to follow and I ended up reading it twice— something I would not normally do.Brian Wilson NZ
