Imperial German Military Officers' Helmets And Headdress 1871-1918

This long-awaited work is a detailed reference on the officers headdress of the Imperial German army from 1871-1918. Described and shown in full color are helmets from the following subjects: generals, infantry, cavalry, artillery, technical troops, communication troops, train, semi-military forces, medical and veterinary services, intendance and supply, the beamte, marine infantry and the colonial forces. Informative and detailed descriptions trace the changing models and patterns, as well as the nuts and bolts of assembly. Also discussed are the Imperial German Armys organization, service, and recruiting of the period from all of the Kingdoms, Grand Dukedoms and Princedoms, as well as the Hanseatic Free States. This book is an important source on Imperial headdress for collectors, dealers, historians, auctioneers and restorers.

Firstly, this is a large, and HEAVY book, full of very useful information on the title subject. A history of the evolution of the pickelhaube and other types of Imperial German Army headgear is included, as well as valuable detail on each item photographed in the book.My only complaint is that the quality of the photography, so important in a reference source such as this, leaves much to be desired. While some photos are of excellent quality, many, too many, are not. To me, many appear to be not professionally done, lacking the correct lighting, and crystal clear focus needed to study this headgear. To see how it should be done, one only has to view another Schiffer volume; " Head Dress of Imperial Germany", by Paul Sanders. While light on text, the photos are superb in this book. I actually believe that these books can compliment one another, and prove very valuable for serious collectors.

Covers all the German Officer spiked helmets -great reference with nice big color pics. If you collect WW1 German -buy this book
