The Tao Of Yoda: Based Upon The Tao Te Ching By Lao Tzu

This book is a new version of the classic ancient text, the Tao Te Ching, by Lao Tzu. It is based upon a new and revised translation, originally published in the book, The Secret Tao: Unearthing the Hidden History and Meaning of Lao Tzu, by D. W. Kreger. Then, as a fun experiment, Dr. Kreger did another version in which he substituted the word Force everywhere it says Tao , and substituted Jedi everywhere it says Holy-man or Sage . The result is truly astonishing. The fit between the Tao Te Ching and philosophy of The Force is uncanny. Each of the 81 verses reads like pearls of wisdom by Master Yoda himself. This version of Lao Tzu, dubbed The Tao of Yoda, was originally released as an e-book online, and the response was amazing. Combining Taoism and The Force is a natural! And, a new pop-culture phenomenon was born. It is a must-have gift for any fan of Star Wars, Pop Culture, Taoism, or Eastern Religion. So was Lao Tzu a Jedi knight from distant galaxy? You decide. And, may the Force be with you!

It's no secret to Star Wars fans that Yoda is a Taoist. Still, this is a very original take on a text that probably has as many translations as the Bible. I've read a few translations of the Tao and I'd consider this to be a very good one. It definitely doesn't take the material lightly, as the title might imply. In other words, you don't have to be a fan of Yoda, Star Wars or George Lucas to get something out of it. My only complaint is that he didn't spend as much time as I would have liked on discussing the relationship between Star Wars and the Tao. But I suppose to a fan of the Star Wars that could be another book entirely.

I was intrigued by the promise of the title - was this a genuinely inspired mashup of ancient and modern or an opportunist offering appealing to the latent, gullible new-ager in me? The author draws upon his study of the Lao Tzu's work (The Secret Tao: Uncovering the hidden history and meaning of Lao Tzu) to argue that the key words Force and Jedi can be plausibly substituted into the Tao Te Ching. He remarks on the similarity of Star Wars' Yoda's phrasing and that of the Tao Te Ching. As I could remember only one phrase from Star Wars and no examples were provided, much of this argument was lost on me. Somewhat skeptical about the value of the exercise, I plowed through the pages of the adjusted Tao Te Ching. The deeper into the book I got, the more the words of the Tao Te Ching -along with the Force and Jedi implants - whispered wisely to me. Tao of Yoda works - may the Force be with it.

With this book, DW Kreger provides another excellent resource for your library. I always enjoy learning from books of this kind. More and more these days, people are being drawn to this philosophy. The book itself is very well written and full of little gems of wisdom, it's an easy read and I for one will be keeping it close by to refer to.

Tao te Ching - Yoda-ified. Meh. Fun I guess. For a novelty it works well. Anything else - you may want to just go to the source. Star Wars for Yoda. Tao te Ching on its own.

Interesting insights into the characters of Star Wars and if one relates at all, into the understanding of the deeper meanings of the Yoda wisdom and its origin

This book is just full of verses. Nothing explained. Not worth the money. Buy a different book with more substance.

Good gift for Star Wars fan
