This wonderful edition arrived today. I am 57 years old and was quiet accomplished until a traumatic brain injury left me in a coma for 3 months and was told I would never play again. Just over a month ago I was able to purchase a very sweet Yamaha digital piano from and other than the lovely book of 50 pieces that came with the piano, this is my first book of sheet.I've not encountered most of these delightful pieces in 50 years and most likely I will never get my brain back to being able to play things from memory.In the past I would have purchased an edition as close to the original as possible, but it is nice to not have to figure out my own fingerings and ornaments.I am one of the most critical gents on the planet and if I were not 100 percent pleased I would not give it my endorsement.
This edition of Schumann's wonderful Album for the Young has an interesting introduction to the work which quotes Schumann as being very enthusiastic about his creation, and eager to publish. It also includes a most enlightening article about editions of the work, with Palmer's justification for preparing a new edition that is not slavishly based on Clara Schumann's. The notation is appropriately quite large and has lots of helpful fingering and other editorial information, but is not swamped by these.Highly recommended.
5 star! For the product and also for the customer service provided by . I was about to give a 4 star to the product since one of the CDs are not perfect (the recordings have some noise). However, sent me a new copy immediately after receiving the complaint. The book is quite impressive for beginner and intermediate levels, especially for introduction to the romantic period. The instructions are also quite useful.
