(Music Sales America). Sibelius completed this work in February 1923 and conducted the premiere at Helsinki on February 19 of that same year. His first reference to the work, in 1918, described it as "wild and passionate in character. Dark with pastoral contrasts. Probably in 4 movements...intensifying in a dark orchestral swell until the main theme is drowned." At the same time he cautioned that his plan could change and how it did! "depending on the way my musical thinking develops. I am always a slave to my themes and obey their demands."

This score is great, it is the only version of Sibelius Symphony 6 that I could find, but it is too large. It will probably be the largest book you own, and will not fit on any bookshelf you own. It is something you could see from a distance, and the binding is spiral so it will lay flat. If you want something like that, then this book is good.
This Edition Wilhelm Hansen original publication is gorgeous. Print is crystal clear and large enough for every conductor's on-stage use. The barlines break with each section (winds, brass, strings), making identification of instrumental lines easy. On two-system pages, there is ample space between systems. The only negative is the sheer size of the score. At 16 1/2" x 12," the top of the score hangs over the top of most music stands, but this is a minor inconvenience. Ring bound for ease of use.
The service was great and the scores look big and clean. Except when I recieved it, there was some dirty spots in the front and the back cover. Other than that I'm very satisfied with it.
At last! A full-size conductor's score of my favorite symphony Beautiful to look at, and spiral-bound for easy page-turning.
