Qatar: Sand, Sea and Sky captures a vibrant desert kingdom on the cusp of change. The text and pictures show both old and new Qatar. The images are all the more gripping because "new Qatar" dates only to 1996.The author, Diana Untermeyer, had the unique perspectives that come from being an accomplished horsewoman who participated in Qatari endurance races, and also the wife of the US Ambassador to Qatar.Don't miss this!
it's also an education and an art exhibit! If you want to learn about the world- learn about Qatar- a modern melting pot of technology, culture, family and government. This is a country quietly leading a way for the world to come to terms- by following its own path. The writing is pithy and to the point- never fluffed up or boring. It's like reading a modern history book. I found it to be very enjoyable and a fascinating look into a world that's hard to imagine.
I was entranced by this beautifully designed, illustrated, and written portrait of a country most of us have never thought of visiting. Perhaps some readers will now aspire to make that visit. I was there briefly in 1968, when Doha was a dusty backwater, and thanks to this book, long to see it again today.
Beautiful book and excellent for familiarizing myself with Qatar before my visit. With building everywhere it is impossible to stay on top of Doha however this book hits the highlights with excellent description and details.
An amazing book written with such understanding and appreciation of the people and country. I travelled to Doha November 2013 and first saw the book in the Islamic Museum of Art. It stuck in my mind and became my Christmas present of choice to my closest friends.
I love this book about Qatar! It really is a refreshing glace at what I believe makes the country special. A big thanks to the author so much for all her hard work and dedication which will undoubtedly help make our hidden gem much more accessible to others!
