You may have already heard of the Sumerians; they were a great civilisation which existed six thousand years ago in what is now known as Iraq. It was this civilisation which introduced many of the current concepts which humankind lives by; the most obvious example of this is time. The Sumerians were the first people to divide time into sixty seconds and sixty minutes.They are also a civilisation which is shrouded in mystery. Although they are generally accepted as the foundation of modern civilisation, they appeared from nowhere and seemed to arrive at the peak of their development. The period after this seems to show that they held their power for thousands of years before a slow decline into obscurity. They developed their own language and are credited with being the first civilisation to record more than just events or trade details. Unfortunately this language remains a mystery today; despite numerous attempts it has not been possible to translate this language. The texts dating from this time period are recorded on tablets and are open to interpretation.The Sumerians also seemed to have an impressive and unprecedented knowledge of the solar system; something that should have been impossible at this time. There are several theories which have been out forward to explain this knowledge but the one that has stuck best over the generations is that the Sumerians were either an alien race, or that the gods they worshipped were aliens and, in return for their labour, they provided them with the knowledge to build advanced civilisations. Certainly the general approach of the Sumerians is non-aggressive and focused on expanding the cultural and artistic horizons of the people.This book looks at the history of the Sumerians and examines the main theories as to how they came into existence. It also takes a look at Planet X, commonly known as Nibiru. This is supposedly the missing planet in our solar system and has an orbit which lasts an impressive three thousand six hundred years! There are many more recent theories regarding this planet and the alien origins of the Sumerians. This book on the Summerians has been informative. It has made me see the wonders of what was known as The Land Of The Civilised Kings. And what I find most interesting is that this book is clearly a product of an intensive research on these people so that readers will have a fully grasp of what and who they were. Indeed, this book made me an informed one.
Kramer, one time the world's leading Sumerian epigrapher, does a remarkable job here of clearly explaining concepts and developments to a nonspecialized reading audience. In this regard, I found much in this book about both the general mechanisms of writing as well as the actual inscriptions themselves to be extremely useful when I wrote my own book (Wetlands of Mass Destruction: Ancient Presage for Contemporary Ecocide in Southern Iraq). It is a rare academic who can move between the writing of technical journal articles and of books for the educated lay public, something in which Kramer, regardless of how dated specialists may now find his work, excelled at.
I loved this book. It's a very thorough look at the Sumerians and their culture. The author went on archaeological digs and studied documents for a good chunk of his life, and his knowledge definitely shows. It's fascinating to see how much we have already learned of a culture that no one knew existed for a very long time. It's also interesting to see the impact Sumerian had on the surrounding cultures of the Near East and Middle East. It's a good in-depth book on one of the first civilizations in history.
I found the book very interesting, it is believed that Nibiru has its own burning moon which acts like a sun, providing warmth and light regardless of where it is in its orbit of our sun. The size of this planet is estimated to be twenty times bigger than Jupiter and there are those that suggest the Anunnaki, the inhabitants of Nibiru visited Earth twenty five thousand years ago. At the time; primitive humans were not capable of understanding the knowledge these aliens were keen to share.
I believe that this is one educational book to read when one wants to be more informed about the ancient people, particularly the Sumerians. And I had an informative reading moment with this book. It made me more familiar about the Sumerians and why the land was called The Land Of The Civilised Kings. This book is obviously an out of a thorough research in order to inform readers well and correctly too. I had a great read here and a lot of enlightenment too.
This book is informative and educational. I’ve learned things about ancient history and ancient civilization. The facts about Sumerians are truly interesting – their culture, education, literature, and ways of life. In this book, you’ll find out the first civilization that we have and experience until this generation. For me, this book is not boring though it’s a history topic because this is really an interesting topic. I recommend this and you will surely learn so many things about an ancient civilization.

I love learning more about our world’s ancient civilizations. So, I am really glad to have found this book which discusses about the Sumerians. I was thoroughly entertained by this, and am able to learn some historical information which I have not heard before. I can definitely say that the author has done a good job with his research. And with that having said, I believe that this can be used as a good reference.
