An excellent book that covers the development of Italian renaissance fortifications in the context of the Florentine siege of Sienna. The first part of the book is given over to the history of the development of bastioned artillery fortifications. The middle section covers the fortifications of Sienna and the construction of the Citadel. The final and largest part of the book covers the Florentine campaign against Sienna and the various sieges that took place during the war. This is, as far as I know, the only English language history of the war and the sieges, in particular the sieges of Porto Ercole and Montalcino. If you are a lover of renaissance Italian history, military history and the history of fortifications, then it doesn't get any better than this.
