If you are a hardcore leftist, a Perredista, or--according to the delirious U.S. political categories--a liberal, you will hate this book with all your guts and probably you will have to get some more to keep hating it. However, it is interesting to stress the fact that this is the first account of a former President of Mexico coming out of the forced retirement that is customary in Mexican politics to argue his case on several issues.* First, to defend his administration from what I do believe was an orchestrated attack of the Zedillo administration from 1995 to 2000.* Second, to defend his brother Raúl Salinas de Gortari who provided all the required reasons for Zedillo to come crashing Salinas as he did it.* Third, to defend his own record as a President who whether we Mexicans would like to accept it or not was extremely popular at the end of his tenure.The book provides good information about the policies pursued and the reasons behind such policies. Only for that the book has been extremely valuable for my own research. I could only wish that all the living former presidents of Mexico would be willing to take the time and the effort to put together a narrative of their years in such key position. Of course, with Fox he would have to get first, his wife permission to write, and then he will have to learn how to put together two words in paper. The good thing is that he can use some of the time he has as president to learn to write when becoming a former president.The only previous experience we had of something like this was the book put out by José López Portillo.
