Fight The Wild Lion: A Story Of Ancient Egypt By B.E. Boldman

Prince Thuthmoses has only one friend, Yuya, the son of a poor provincial lord. Thuthmoses didn't want to be the crown prince, but his brother died. His father thinks he's not worthy to be pharaoh, thinks he is weak and incompetent. But the animosity between father and son is only mitigated by his friend Yuya, who believes in the One God who has no face. Doing anything to antagonize his royal father, Prince Thuthmoses even manages to take a gift for pharaoh, a beautiful woman, and give her to his best friend. But instead of seeing through his friend's ulterior motives, Yuya takes the girl and learns to love her. Only pharaoh realizes Yuya's true value not only to his son, but to his country. And if the crown prince is going to be the ruler of the Two Lands, he had better learn to heed Yuya's advice and wise council, or not only is Thuthmoses doomed, Egypt is fated to fall with him.

Vivid battles, intense betrayals, valiant men and women. This book is a rich exciting journey of two men, their unusual brotherly bond and their progress of loyalty to one true God. Strong characters and details that make you become a part of the adventure! An amazing read.

The story line of what is supposedly a historical novel could be interesting if it had been more fully developed. As it so raggedly progresses, it lacks believability. Furthermore, errors abound, not just grammatically, but many appear to be either typos or haphazardly written, almost as if the story had been dictated to an iPhone. In some parts the author seems to have forgotten what he had previously written, e.g. within the same chapter one of the characters is said to be eight years old; then, in the next paragraph she is eleven. Some threads of the story are left hanging, while the book comes to an abrupt end, as if the author is thinking, "I'm tired of writing this entangled thing; I must end it and get on with my life."

I liked the story line, but I am "a word nerd", as the saying goes. I spent a lot of time mentally rewriting sentences, respelling homonyms, and so on,. That makes for tiresome reading. Someone mentioned that free books are seldom or never edited, and I could believe that by what was printed. However, that opposes the author's comments naming those who had helped clear the manuscript of errors. If that was edited, the author should get a second opinion. On the plus side, there is a lot in the book which shows promise.

A very interesting tale of ancient Egypt. It has intriguing insight into the mix of ancient biblical connections as well as Egyptian history. I found the book very enjoyable and would recommend it to others.

interesting plot but no twists or turns. It was a quick fun read. That said, I have never seen so many editing issues...typos, misspelt words, bad grammar. Worst I have seen in something I actually paid to read.

Although this story had some intriguing aspects, once again I found myself struggling with numerous malapropisms and grammatical and typographical errors. I'm not sure whether this is a result of poor proofreading in the Kindle format, or whether it is intrinsic to the writing itself. There is no indication that this book is a translation from another language; if so, that might explain some of the awkwardness of many of the troubling errors.Being unfamiliar with Egyptian history beyond that which is sketchily portrayed in the Hebrew Scriptures, I found this story most interesting as a fill-in to the time period between the events recounted in Genesis and the start of Exodus. I was aware that although the Bible does not give any real sense of time lapse, there had actually been many generations between the death of the ancestor Joseph and the birth of the prophet Moses. Boldman's book develops the fascinating character Yuya (Judah), half Hebrew, a young nobleman who became the close friend, confidante and mentor of Thutmoses IV. The story hinges on the development of Yuya's devotion to the True God of the Hebrews, which he tries to impart to the young Pharaoh. As long as Thutmoses does remain humble and willing to trust God, things go well. However, when he tries to exert his own "divine power", they rapidly deteriorate and the trickery and machinations of his other advisers wreak havoc. The story is fast moving and the domestic interludes involving Yuya and his wife Thuya are a simple and poignant love story. If it weren't for the grating effect of the aforementioned grammatical errors, I would have been able to rate this book higher.
