Shepard is one of the great American playwrights of his era, and this book is worth reading for a study of his early development. But these short plays are very experimental, and as such, quite a few of them really do not work. "Ages of the Moon," "The Unseen Hand," and "Icarus’s Mother" are among the standouts.
My husband and I are amateur improvisers, and we are going on an old-fashioned driving vacation soon. We will use this book to practice our improv. While one of us is driving, the other will pick a character in one of the plays and read a line to the one that's driving. The driver must improvise a response to the line, and then the passenger will read the next line for his character, and so on to have lots of fun and keep alert while driving on long stretches of interstate.
Excellent read,really inspirational and inciteful.
I have always enjoyed short stories from various authors. This one did not disappoint. Always enjoyed his acting, didn't know he wrote so well.
Good enough for the price.
