The story of Ingrid Betancourt is controversial. I read her book along with other books written by some of her fellow hostages and here is my recommendation: If you are looking for entertainment, this book can provide that. If you are looking for the full story, all the facts and a fair assessment, you should read books written by the other hostages, such as "Out of Captivity" published in 2009 and a New York Times Bestseller, an excellent book written by the three Americans who were kidnapped and lived under the same conditions with Betancourt. There are other books available, written by some of the other hostages as well.Betancourt entered the enemy territory on her own free will after being advised against it by the Colombian government, informed of the dangers involved, and signing a release document assuming responsibility for entering FARC territory. This would make her a victim by her own doing. All the other testimony offered by all her fellow hostages is consistent in portraying Ingrid as an abusive, cruel and calculating human being, who was willing to endanger the lives of others to satisfy her needs. There are readers who would justify Ingrid's behavior due to the extreme conditions that all the hostages were subjected to. However, one would have to wonder, if all the hostages faced the same extreme conditions, why did no other hostage besides Ingrid, become a vicious and heartless human being. To make a fair assessment, we need to read the testimony from the other hostages that were present, including other women. This considering that according to the hostages, Ingrid actually received special treatment, while she herself treated everyone else in a heartless and ruthless manner.

Un libro lleno de mentiras y datos parcializados, amoldados a la propia realidad o conveniencia de Ingrid Betancourt. No solo esta lleno de falsas acusaciones sino que tambien pone a Ingrid como martir o el icono Colombiano que ciertamente no es. Tales desaciertos ponen en tela de juicio la obra completa y no amerita en nada que ni Ud ni yo, gastemos nuestro dinero en un libro que no describe lo que realmente paso ni lo que realmente Ingrid Betancourt es como persona.Si, esta bien redactado, pero ese no es el punto! Esta es una narracion no ficticia, de manera que la semantica del libro no es lo unico importante aqui sino el mensaje y experiencia del autor, que denuevo, estan torcidas y amoldadas a su propia conveniencia.-- Un poco de Historia --Ingrid Betancourt no fue la unica que vivio ese infierno con las FARC. Muchos mas estaban con ella, incluso 3 americanos y varios colombianos, los cuales en su mayoria coinciden en decir que Ingrid Betancourt era egoista, posesiva e incluso hasta agresiva con ellos, con tal de lograr indulgencias por parte de sus captores. LLego incluso a segregar el area donde todos estaban confinados, a poner horarios o turnos para usar la ducha o incluso a controlar los pocos radios AM/FM que habian. Mintio a los guardias, diciendo que 3 de los presos, que eran de ciudadania americana, eran agentes infiltrados de la CIA, todo con el fin de que fuesen expulsados o quizas asesinados y tener mas espacio para ella misma. Esas son solo algunas de las "pilatunas" de esta mujer mientras estaba en cautiverio.
