I bought this book as a level one adult piano student who wants to play sacred music (hymns). This book does not disappoint. It was structured to the Alfreds Basic Adult Piano Course Level One and follows that book exactly. Each song tells you where you need to be in the Basic Course Book in order to play the song. With this knowledge you can even try to challenge your ability by going a little further in the book than you are in the course, and then seeing where you stack up in your lesson.The music in the book is very satisfying to play. The arrangements are simple but beautiful. Right away after only a few piano lessons you can play some of your favorite hymns. The songs are easy but not too easy and they sound very professional when you play them.Highly recommended!
Although a senior adult, I'm just learning how to play piano. I've found this book quite enjoyable and easy. It's a nice compliment to the lessons in the Alfred's Basic Lesson Book.
Alfred's Basic Adult Sacred Piano Book: Level 1 is an excellent book for adult beginning piano students who love the old favorite hymns. The arrangements are easy for beginner but do not sound childish. The arrangements are simplistic yet beautiful.
I started taking piano lessons about a year ago and I'll be 75 in August. I always wanted to play and never had the opportunity. Alfred's arrangements are easy for me and when I play them they don't sound like I am such a beginner! Well done!
My mother passed away a few years ago and I got her piano, which was what she had always wanted me to have. :) I had not played in 20+ years and needed something to kinda start me out again. I love the hymns because they remind me of my mother. This book is wonderful. Not too advanced so if you're looking for advanced music this is not it. But the pieces are beautifully arranged and not hard to play. No doubt you could add notes/chords to them. Definitely worth buying. I have already ordered Level 2!
Great book for beginners. I enjoy playing the spiritual songs in this book. I am learning how to play the piano, at my Senior Center and the songs in the book is great, however I practice more with this book because the lessons I learn in class can be applied to the songs in this book. I would recommend this book to all beginners. You will enjoy the music as you play and experience progress as well.
I was very pleased with this book! I ordered this one for my son who has had a couple years of lessons, and book 2 for my other son who is more advanced. I wanted a book that would develop their chord playing and hymn playing skills, and these books are perfect. The arrangements are beautiful yet simple enough for the early piano students.
The music is very easy to read and follow. I appreciate Hal Leonard for publishing these books as my level of playing ability is not like that of a concert pianist! I'm happy to be able to play many songs successfully at my level and love it!
