This book was recommended to my son twice before we finally bought it. This is the reference book that we've seen multiple dealers pull out whether it's been at Cabela's or gun shows to buy older collector guns. Our go-to when we consult a book (of course, we still keep online too)--but, this is a nice book to own and provides great info in an easy to understand/find format. Would buy it again.
I bought his book for my husband, who collects antique military firearms. Being 26, he's very computer savvy and looks everything up on the Internet. The man loves his CMP forums. I got this as a filler gift for Valentines day and didn't really expect him to use it too much. He actually finds it very useful. His father is always traveling and buying guns and needs quick reference checks, serial # identification and price quotes and with this book my husband is able to look everything up and give accurate info over the phone. The book is really detailed with gun specifications and country information. It is full of information that is readily available on the Internet, but the book is really handy because it is all right there and, so far, accurate.
Since I have a lot of old military firearms which I want to sell, it is important to have some idea of current values. This book, the "Standard Catalog of Military Firearms", which I purchased from .com contains a pictoral description not only of my firearms and their current values, but also as an added bonus, includes pictures of the bayonets that go with each rifle as well as a suggested price range for each bayonet. A "must have" catalog for any gun lover.
Excellent reference for anyone interested in military weapons of the world. Breakdown by country and weapon type makes finding the firearm you are interested in a fairly easy proposition. Even some of the more obscure makes and models are present, with multiple types and off-shoots also documented. Concise descriptions and lots of photo's help make this a fine book for military firearm enthusiests of all levels.
You will not find many civilian firearms here, but you will find virtually all military firearms carried by a major nation, including pistols, rifles, flintlocks, machine guns, assault rifles and cap and ball pieces. 526 pages, 2,000 listings and 1,500 photographs make this a must have for the military long/short gun collector. As a bonus, a price guide is given for virtually all items, spanning 5 grades or conditions: Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, and Poor. At a discounted price of a little over $17.00, this military firearm guide is impossible to pass.
A very good book on the military firearms. A lot of pics and descriptions of military firearms from all over the would. A lot of good reading here for information about variations of different models pistols and rifles also machine guns.
This book provides a very informative overview of the subject. I can't believe I've operated this long without it. This is to the military collector what Fjestad's Blue Book is to the dealer. If you have an interest in military firearms I highly recommend this book.
Would not have bought if had chance to brouse through the book before buying it. Pictures are of poor quality and prices are far from real, much too high.
