Excellent edition for vocal study: good translations, good keys, easy to read. An extra added feature is some historical information about individual and groups of songs.
If you enjoy singing French melodies, then this collection of Faure's 50 most well-known and oft performed songs is perfect! It's an absolute pleasure to make a selection from the ones in the book. The printing is very easy on the eyes, and each song is preceded by the French text side by side with the translation. From the young student to the seasoned performer, the Faure: 50 songs will delight all!
The book is brand new, except it had a slight warp to the binding, otherwise it would've gotten 5 stars. Any book of this size should really come in a spiral-bound format so it lays flat on the music stand.
Beautiful songs, though the transposition to medium voice is only one or two halftones from the original, not so much for deeper men's voices.
This was definitely one of my best purchases! The book was in perfect condition, the text and translation is the right font and is very informative. I appreciate the fact that the index has two sides, one chronological side and the other alphabetical. The preface is very educational and shows a singer how to approach performing the delicate genre of melodie. I highly recommend this book for any level singer who shows in interest in Faure, Melodie, or building up their repertoire library.
This is the Fauré collection that most tenor and soprano students will purchase. The companion "Low Voice" edition is for lower voice types. My only pet peeve (as an accompanist, playing the pieces for personal enjoyment rather than learning), is that many of the pieces have been transposed, so if one wanted only the pieces in original keys, they would have to also buy the "Low Voice" edition and go back and forth between volumes. Dover publishes some art song collections that retain the original key for each piece, and I prefer to purchase these when available for a particular composer.
This collection is your typical Faure. Though I wasn't 100% pleased with the selection, I thought the number of songs in the book made the purchase worth it.
