This book contains 18 intermediate pieces that would benefit a serious piano students repetoire. Written by J.S. Bach for instructing his son, these pieces are crafted for strengthening technique but stand alone as their own "mini" compositions. The CD is a valuable aid, though the pieces are played quite fast for most students at this level. The student should have good reading skills and good fundemental technique before starting this book.
Great book, but it doesn't list the BWV numbers for the works.After looking through different sources, I believe that these are the BWV numbers of the preludes as they appear in this book: 924, 939, 999, 925, 926, 940, 941, 927, 928, 929, 930, 942, 933, 934, 935, 936, 937, 938.
This book has all of the 18 "little" preludes by Bach. It does NOT have the "little" fugues. The way it is printed is very clear. The binding is a bit stiff, it does not lay flat on the music desk of the piano very easily. I would have preferred a Schirmer-type staple binding.
I love this book. The CD that comes with it is excellent. The explanations of ornaments are detailed and the fingerings are helpful. I highly recommend this book.
The CD provides an example of how the work sounds on a modern instrument. Of use for all early players, of any age, who are attempting to learn keyboard technique that is presumably similar to what was used in the Baroque period.
I love this music and I bought this to see just how difficult the preludes are. Ok! Now I know. The book is great! Easy to read and nicely set up. I figure in about 2-5 years I will be playing this.
