With his Op. 31 Hummel composed another series of dances in the year 1809 that he dedicated to the Apollosaal, the most fascinating amusement hall of Old Vienna, and a popular venue for the enlightened nobility just as for the emerging bourgeoisie. The series features six Minuets and six Deutsche Tänze, each followed by a Trio. The German Dance No 6 is especially remarkable because of the mythological quote of the Cyclops and the subsequent entry of the hurdy-gurdy man. These enjoyable musical miniatures offer an interesting glimpse into the creation history of the classical waltz and the world famous Viennese dance culture. They retain their charm as dance music to the present day.-----------------------Mit seinem Op. 31 schuf Hummel 1809 eine weitere Tanzserie mit Widmung für den faszinierendsten Vergnügungstempel des alten Wien, den Apollosaal, der sich beim aufgeklärten Adel und dem aufstrebenden Bürgertum gleichermassen grosser Beliebtheit erfreute. Darin finden sich sechs Menuette und sechs Deutsche Tänze, denen jeweils ein Trio nachfolgt. Eine Besonderheit stellt der sechste Deutsche Tanz mit seinem mythologischen Zitat der Zyklopen und das nachfolgende Trio mit dem Auftritt des Leiermanns dar. Die unterhaltsamen musikalischen Miniaturen sind nicht nur musikgeschichtlich interessant, weil sie einen Blick auf die Entstehung des klassischen Walzers und die weltberühmte Wiener Tanzkultur erlauben.
