Making Of The West, Volume I: To 1750: Peoples And Cultures

Students of Western civilization need more than facts. They need to understand the cross-cultural, global exchanges that shaped Western history; to be able to draw connections between the social, cultural, political, economic, and intellectual happenings in a given era; and to see the West not as a fixed region, but a living, evolving construct. These needs have long been central to The Making of the West. The book’s chronological narrative emphasizes the wide variety of peoples and cultures that created Western civilization and places them together in a common context, enabling students to witness the unfolding of Western history, understand change over time, and recognize fundamental relationships.

This was very easy to read and understand. There are loads of pictures and diagrams and charts. It keeps your interest and explains the topics in a way that anyone could understand. I prefer this history textbook as opposed to any other. I would definitely recommend this textbook use to any professor who teachers history. Its affordable and easy for students to grasp concepts.

I didn't get this book to read in my free time of course but I bought this since my school requires for me to have it. It's cheaper here than any where I could find, although I heard on textbooksrus.com that it's cheaper, but I had already purchased it here so whatever.Anyways, it's easy to read!

My history professor expressed a sneaking suspicion that not all of the information in this book (dates, events, names) were accurate.

I ordered this for my western civilization course, and ended up enjoying it more then I anticipated.

As a student of history, naturally there are a lot of important names and dates that need to be committed to memory. If this were not a textbook, it would be a good read all by itself.

Great organization, easy to use. Includes timelines and summary. Really helps bring together the "big picture" or historical events and time periods.

This textbook has many special features and is very well-written and easy to follow.I learned a lot from it.

The textbook material was awful. Organization of it was fine, but material couldn't have been more boring.
