I'm back for an update! One only needs to read the settlement of the Trayvon Martin case in Florida and look at the current listings of the properties for sale in that community to know the impact a rogue community member can make on everyone else. I'm not talking about the emotional aspect, I'm talking about the financial devastation. Over a million dollar settlement...did they have insurance? Or did they buy it after the fact? Are the homeowners being assessed? Now, is the time everyone MUST read Neighbors At War! It is the smallest price you will ever pay for the greatest education you will ever get!Ward Lucas became my HERO the day I started reading this book. He has written an easy to read encyclopedia about HOA's. Much of what he says, I have been saying for over 5 years...but nobody wants to hear the truth. Which is just plain stupid when it comes to investing in real estate or taking any other financial risks. (Remember Ponzi Man Bernie Madoff?) None of his investors wanted to believe the truth either until they woke up flat broke! We are always better off to listen to experts in the field even if we don't want to hear what they are saying.HOA members don't want to hear the truth. Why? They want to believe in the "Cinderella" story that they will live happily ever after. In spite of seeing the financial waste (my HOA has TEN MILLION DOLLARS unaccounted for and the guy in charge of it dropped dead when the investigation started) massive number of lawsuits against the homeowners for not paying the dues while the HOA continues to breach the contract they have with all 513 homeowners.
