The story is actually interesting. But I'm sorry to say that I'm not that impressed with the lead character Lex Luther. This is a review basically of all 3 books in the series to-date.*** some spoilers ahead ***I don't like the character much because she always reacts instead of acts. For an ex-soldier, she doesn't think much on strategy. Supposedly, her entire motivation is to protect her niece, her one blood link to her dead twin. And yet, she eschews training and learning. She is terrified of her own powers then acts surprised when others show the same fear. She asks but doesn't hear. Control your powers so they don't control you. Military strategy 101 is control your environment. Or try.There's always a part of the fight scenes where she trips. Always. For a soldier, her hand to hand skills are not much to talk about. In most of the fights, she gives up, about to die, then one of her friends swoop in to save her. In this book, she sacrifices herself without a backup plan. Oh yes, sorry she did have a backup plan -- to use modern weapons against the villain who can't die. And who is supposed to be very powerful. So smart.The hero Quinn isn't really much of a hero. Doesn't impress me at all. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets killed in the future and the author uses his death to spur Lex to do something. Probably another sacrifice. Don't get me wrong, he is described as a hunk. But his character is not really felt. He's really more like a background piece. If Lex ends up with Simon instead, I wouldn't be surprised.Anyway, while the author kind of left you hanging a little bit, I don't really feel much for Lex' future to invest further time in this series.
