I basically give all these Garfield 3-packs the same rating-- First, it's a really good deal to buy the books this way price-wise. Second, Garfield really inspired my 8 year old son to learn to read a few years ago, and he reads and re-reads these books over and over. Unlike some comic books or made-for-kids books (I'm thinking of things like the comic sections of Captain Underpants), there are no spelling errors or weird slang he won't understand-- Nothing too violent or off-color-- Just Garfield. I can let him read it without worrying about it, and Garfield has become an old friend.
My son had no interest in reading until he discovered these Garfield Comic books-- And unlike some other books he likes that are more kid-oriented-- All the spelling in these books is correct, the sentences are usually complete, the grammar proper-- (Captain Underpants wasn't helping his spelling situation!!) So THANK YOU TO JIM DAVIS.
My son loves these books. First it was Calvin and Hobbes, now Garfield. Not sure why he likes the comics with mischievous characters...oh, wait...he's my child. It's a great value for the amount of reading a kid can accomplish.
My son is not the most "into school" kid-- and he was really struggling in reading-- Was even in Reading Recovery in first grade (last year) for awhile-- And then he discovered Garfield comic books at the library and fell in love with them!-- and he just tested in the 78percentile (meaning, he reads better than 78 percent of kids in our district for his grade)! He LOVES these books and I've bought him a few of these 3-pack books on (way cheaper than anywhere else!) as gifts for him, just to say "Good job, keep going!" Really, for how thick and colorful the book is-- this is really a nice price. While they (all the Garfield 3-pack books-- which there are many!) are generally paperback, it's a nice sturdy binding and, unlike some of the other books that kids his age tend to be attracted to, I know the words are spelled correctly, the grammar isn't funky-- and there is nothing too racy in it! I say if you can find something that gets your kid reading that meet those criteria-- GRAB IT!
WE have just introduced Garfield to our son and he loves reading these comic books. He takes this book with him everywhere and always wants to have it with him when he goes somewhere. He spends hours reading it over and over.
My teens love these 3-pack Garfield books. I buy them for Christmas a lot and they have almost all of them. They're funny to read over and over again. They're in color, which is a huge plus over the black & white ones (IMO). Good price, as opposed to purchasing each of the 3 books separately. Recommended!
We love Garfield at our house and my children have loved this book. We started by getting Garfield books from the Library, but for this price we had to get our own copy so we could read it over and over. It came it great shape.
Garfield is the funniest, Clever and realistic cat to ever live. More jokes from the brilliant humour of Jim Davis who even today is still bringing out more jokes and more issues to deal with. One of the best comic strips of the century. Enjoy.
