Good running theme regarding relationships. Use of many characters to tell one story keeps it light, funny, and fast. Only downside to that would be the lack of character depth as each character only has a short time to tell his/her story. Good piece to take funny short monologues from. Good starter piece for beginner actors.
Brilliant play! Ridiculously hilarious. Lovely characters, well written and a fab author. The monologue 'I ate the divorce papers' is amazing, and can be used for auditions or school work. I used it for an exam piece and I never enjoyed embodying a character so much. It went down a treat with the audience, and I was successful with it. If using for school/college work, the play is perfect for you if your wanting to do comedy, and very versatile if wanting to put your own spin on it. If your considering to read this play just for a general read, then I recommend in doing so! It's an easy, light read with unexpected twists. Definitely a happy customer!
I downloaded this for an audition and I love the script. Not only that, but I can highlight in it even though it's on my kindle. Perfect for what I needed it for.
Quick and simple to read, with some unusual circumstances and a focus on characters who apparently seem to have a disconnection from their own sanity! This makes for a ridiculous storyline which is humorous, enjoyable and also touches on the real problems behind some of the characters' silly actions. Serious at the right times and funny at the rest, this play is a win. Also, I contacted the playwright to gather some extra information and he was brilliant both in the time in which he replied and the quality of his information. It's great when you find an enjoyable play AND the playwright is lovely :)
The characters in this play are struggling with relationships. It's the good stuff of this kind of comedy. The writer has a true ear for dialogue; there is an interesting playful melding of time periods; and there is truth. Funny and sad and definitely recommended.
I found a monologue of Mr. Davis's when I was perusing the Internet for a piece for a school competition. I immediately fell head over heels in love with the piece but had a few questions and concerns regarding the piece. I immediately emailed Mr.Davis and he was super helpful and very excited that I had chosen his piece. I love the way that his works are written to reflect real language and had great success with the piece in competition! A wonderful playwright to consider when trying to find a good piece :)
This play helped me get into graduate school. I performed a segment of it at a grad school recruiting program and most all of the schools interested, loved my interpretation of the segment that I chose from this play. Gabriel Davis did a wonderful job writing this play and defining the characters. This is a great read and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great monologue to perform or an entertaining play to direct.
Gabriel Davis has a knack for dialogue and monologue and that is displayed in this play. The turn-on-a-dime discussion between a comedic situation to a biting dramatic statement is shown throughout this play and it is a funny, sensitive, and overall great play.
